The word "Drubchen" literally means "great accomplishment" in Tibetan, and is one of the most precious forms of Vajrayana Buddhist practice. The Drubchod is a smaller, more intimate, version of the Drubchen and is a rare opportunity to practice the Buddha instructions; to concentrate body, speech, and mind in spiritual application. This effort results in tremendous benefit to oneself and others, in this and future lives.

Participating in this practice generates merit and potential realisation. Dedicating it to all sentient beings extends this benefit to our world.  Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche has said that "it is really good to participate in a drubchen (chod) as a Vajrayana practitioner again and again. It is believed that just going to one drubchen will take care of all samaya breakages instantly. "

To wish happiness for others,

even those who want to do us harm,

is the source of consummate happiness.

Our Guides

Ven, Khenpo Choephel Rinpoche has for the past 5 years served at Rinchen Ling Monastery, Nepal, having responsibility for many administrative functions and acting as the principal teacher of many young tulkus.

Since coming to the United States at the request of Khenchen Konchog Gyaltshen Rinpoche in 2007, Khenpo la has given many empowerments and teachings on Bodhicitta, Yidam Practices, Guru Yoga, and introduced us to the Fivefold Path of Mahamudra, one of the most profound dharma teachings of this lineage.  He has taught at many dharma centers in the United States and abroad, constructed sand mandalas and demonstrated Tibetan ritual arts. Khenpo Choephel is also the spiritual director of Three Rivers Tibetan Cultural Center in Pittsburgh.

Ven. Lama Konchok Sonam is the Spiritual Director here at the Drikung Meditation Center. He is originally from Katsel near Lhasa, Tibet and has been at our center since 2003.  His main teacher is the Most Venerable Nyedak Rinpoche, master of the ancient Katsel monastery. Ven. Lama Sonam works tirelessly, and has created a permanent home for the  sacred Jowo Rinpoche Statue, and established the first US Jokhang Temple.

Tsok Feast

The Drubchod will conclude on Sunday at 5pm with a "tsok"- a special offering feast of celebration where the offerings are received by the wisdom deities and transformed into blessing substances.

If you would like to participate in the tsok from home, Any offering made with pure intention is appropriate, Easily shared offerings are practical. Here are some suggestions:

Please refrain from meat, alcohol, eggs or garlic.

  • finger sandwiches

  • cheese platter

  • vegetarian sushi

  • crusty bread to dip in olive oil

  • chips and salsa/guacamole

  • juice and fizzy water

  • nuts/trail mix

  • fruit, like grapes or sliced apples or oranges etc.

  • soup or salad

  • bagels, muffins, granola bars

Your at-home-tsok need not be elaborate, but should be lovingly arranged on clean plates. Your tsok food should be fresh, from unopened packaging.

You will make a plate for the Buddhas & Bodhisattvas, which you place on your shrine. Then make a plate for yourself and whoever may be with you.

And finally, you'll have an empty plate for the "remainder" offering - you'll place some of your tsok food on the remainder plate (like a cookie, or a few grapes) and that plate will go outside for the beings who are hungry and in need.
It will be made clear when this is about to happen.
